The Met Gala came with plenty of shocking moments—did you see Lady Gaga’s live pink carpet outfit changes?—and major celebrity relationship updates. Namely, Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx made their public debut as a couple on Monday night at the big event. So why’s it a big deal? Well, Foxx and Holmes have been rumored to be dating for many years, but they’ve never confirmed their relationship and have rarely been seen in public together. Though the couple didn’t walk the Met Gala carpet together, they posed for photographs inside the event, stopping to greet celebrities like Cardi B.
Rumors that Foxx and Holmes were dating began in 2013, when they were reportedly seen dancing together at an event in the Hamptons.
Though Foxx denied that there was anything happening at this stage, the couple were seen holding hands in public two years later, sparking more chatter. The pair have taken great measures to keep their relationship discreet in the years since, but have quietly celebrated birthdays together and visited each other on various sets. In 2018, they were famously photographed together inside of Clive Davis’s pre-Grammys party. According to a source quoted in People, Foxx and Holmes try to make as much time to see each other as possible given their busy schedules. “When they can spend time together, they do. When they’re busy and they can’t, they don’t,” the source said.
“They are two adults who enjoy each other’s company and have for a long time.”
Given the unbearable scrutiny that A-list couples are subjected to–which Holmes experienced first-hand with her marriage to Tom Cruise–you certainly can’t blame them for keeping their relationship under the radar for this long. But still, it’s exciting to see them make things a little more official.
