Instagram and Facebook may be banning Minister Louis Farrakhan, not without hiphop’s West Coast voice Snoop Dogg having something important to say about it. Recently it was announced that popular social media outlets Facebook and Instagram would be placing a ban on the Nation of Islam leader, along with a few others, indefinitely. Facebook cited that the reason behind muting the minister on their platform was primarily due in part to his past anti-Semitic language. Snoop, a fan and longtime loyalist to Farrakhan, hopped on his own Instagram account to call the outlets out, while also proclaiming that his page will be a hub for the minister’s content.
“So Facebook and Instagram just banned Louis Farrakhan, I want to know for what,” he addressed. “All he ever do was to tell the truth. But y’all gonna ban him though. What if we ban y’all? What if we stop with y’all Facebook and Instagram? How you gonna ban Minister Louis Farrakhan for putting truth out there?” And if Farrakhan is facing a ban, the Long Beach rap legend continued, he shouldn’t be the only one.
“I stand with him…ban me,” he said. “Ban me. I’ma keep posting. I’ma keep putting Louis Farrakhan out there. That’s my dear brother. That got a problem with him.” Snoop then went on to apologize to the minister for his use of explicit language, while also expressing his loyalty to him: “Sorry Minister, I had to bang for ya. I know you don’t permit that. But that ain’t right. It’s not right. There’s a bunch of people ya’ll could ban. But ya’ll choose Minister Farrakhan?”
In another message, Snoop also encouraged his own followers to upload and share their favorite Farrakhan posts, saying, “they can’t ban all of us.”
The 85-year-old minister isn’t the only public figure prohibited to post content on Facebook and Instagram either. Host of Infowars Alex Jones, and British right-wing political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos were also among those exiled from the social media outlets on Thursday. In a statement released to CNN, a spokesperson for Facebook further detailed the reason behind the ban:
“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in v-iolence and hate, regardless of ideology. The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
